Basketball

Have you ever played basketball? I have.
Its a fun sport to play. When I got use to playing and learning new skills every Monday with my class Rm 20 and Rm 19, I started liking it more and more.

In basketball our coaches were Manu and Malic. They teached us a few different passes and these are some of them. There was an over head pass, a chest pass and a bounce pass.

They teached us other skills like how to defend yourself like there’s two ways. There are armbar and the leg bar, Coach malic called it the chicken leg and the chicken wings.

One of my favourite skills I learned is how to shoot properly. First you do a jump stop and then you put it it a shooting position and then you bend your legs and then shoot.

We also learnt some games that's to do with basketball.
One of them was called the golden child. If you want to play this is how: First you have to groups one of the groups have to shoot behind a line and the other group has to run. The group that is running goes one at a time and if the person who is shooting gets it in, the person who is running has to stop and stay where they are. If the person didn't get it in the person thats running doesn't stop running until they get to the end. Lastly when it's the last person running they are called the golden child. The Golden child runs and tags the people that can’t move any where and then they all run to the end. If someone gets the ball in the hoop while all of them are running and hasn’t got to the finish. The people that are running loose. If the other team didn’t get them in and the running team got to the finish they win the game.

Dog report

  Man’s best friend.
Date: 10.06.15

Today I’m going to be talking about how dogs are man's best friend. Do you ever wonder why people say that dogs are man’s best friends, not cats or other pets? I  did.  I think this report will show you why.

I think dogs are man’s best friend because they are loyal and playful pets.
You can teach them tricks and play with them in the park and even at home. Also they are cute and you can take them to places. Unlike cats, you can’t really take them to parks and places.

Dogs can be really helpful if you're a blind person because some dogs are trained to help blind people. They help blind people walk around and take them where they want to go. They also stop when they are going to cross a road.

Dogs are an animal that you can actually use to smell things. Like sniffing drugs, fruit and trying to find people. They use them because dogs have a keen sense of smell. They are trained by people to smell certain things. Like if the dog is trained to smell drugs, they probably can’t track fruit or people that are missing.

The police sometimes use dogs to find criminals and burglars as well. So if there was a burglary and the burglar dropped something of his, the dogs could find them by sniffing it. Then the dog knows what smell to look for and where to go because everyone has a certain smell.

Did you know that dogs can mimic your emotions? I didn’t. I never knew that dogs, know if you're sad or really happy. So if you're sad the dog will know and it will try and make you feel better and comfort you. If you're lonely because it’s only you and your dog that lives in your house. Your dog can be your friend because dogs are pets that you can be friends with and you can have so much fun with them too.

This is why I think dogs are man’s best friend. They have a keen sense of smell, loyal, playful, comforts you, help blind people and can be your friend. No other animal can help humans quite like a dog can, our best friend.

Shark

`Shark 2.jpgShark.jpg

Aahhhh we screamed. “ Keep calm Deja it’s just a little shark, I think” I said to myself. “Its ok Deja we are safe in this kayak, as long as we have some food we will be ok” said Alexis calmly. I had a smile on my face Oh yea, anyway at least I have someone here and lucky you bringed a supply of food” Deja said. Alexis started having a weird smile on her face .
We both started thinking about the sharks. About how sharks eyes looks fierce. The teeth are as sharp as teeth can be. Also how fast they are.

We both just remembered what our parents said if you ever see a shark thats going to attack you, you just have to poke or punch them in the eye.

“I got an idea Alexis”. I do to Deja, we could say it at the same time”.
“Ok” said Deja. “Ok in three, two, one, If it tries to attack us we can just poke it or punch it in the eye” we said quickly. Alexis started looking at the shark and said “ we could try and kayak to the closest beach or Island as well”.

“Yea we could, but maybe a Island because the closest beach will probably take us ages to get to” said Deja.
Alexis choose the Island on our right. We started paddling and the shark kept following us. Both of our tummies started rumbling. We were hungry from paddling for like an hour.

Finally we got to the Island. When we got out of the kayak, the shark jumped out of the water and the shark was getting ready to opens its mouth. We couldn’t look so we closed  our and screamed “ Ahhhh” We put our hand into a fist and we punched it right in the eye. We didn’t know if it was true or if we died, but then we opened our eyes and it was on the ground. “ Hurrrrr Ayyyyy” we said. I’m hungry can you get the food from the  kayak said Deja. Alexis started looking nervous and said um about that I left it in the house “ Nooooo!” Deja kept screaming. Then we started arguing again.

Markets

At markets there's lots of things. Mostly its food but it can be clothes and equipment too.

There's stalls that have fruit and veges. Like peaches, grapes, tomatoes and lots more.

One thing I like about the markets is how people set up their stalls. Some stalls put there food in colours like tomatoes and strawberries together because they are red. some people set up their stalls in lines, like cheap food in first line and the last line has dear food.

Stalls that have equipment sometimes put there things across their mat and sometimes on tables too.

Usually people sell equipment that they don’t want anymore or they by so things and then sell them. So usually you will see some new shoes, old shoes, bikes, shirts, hats, toys and lots of other things that people find interesting.

Once I went to a market and there was a stall that only sold phones. all the phones were on the table and the person that owned that stall kept shouting out loud “Phones, phones get a phone its the cheapest you will see, hurry now running out fast”. But the stall keeper was kinder lying because he had lots more phones at the back of his car.

One time I smelt a type of food that I love, it was kebabs. I couldn’t resist going to that food van. I ran straight to it. They had all kinds of kebabs, they had
meatball kebabs, beef kebabs, steak and onion kebabs and my favourite chicken kebabs. They had sauce that they made too. The one I liked was peanut sauce. I thought it tasted delicious with a chicken kebab. Once I spent all my money on food that was mostly kebabs because it was so delightful and delicious.

Its crowded at markets. You can easily get lost in one, so sometimes they have a place where lost kids go. People kept pushing me when I am trying to follow my parent so I didn’t get lost. So when ever i’m in big crowds I get really nervous because I might get lost.

Most people that have stalls markets are asians because they are used to lots of markets around them. But in New Zealand we don’t have markets everywhere.

One thing I love getting there every time is grapes and peaches. I love eating them they leave a nice taste in my mouth.

There's a food that I like eating but not smelling. I think the smell of fish is strong and smells like something I wouldn’t eat, but I do because it tastes wonderful. Every time I go to a market the sell fish, the smell of fish go up nostrils and it makes me have to put something over my nose.

When it rains people still go to the markets and look at stalls. I probably wouldn’t because of the wetness and i think it will start to sell.

There’s a Saturday night market I think around Onehunga. I’ve been there a few times with my dad.

There's this really awesome stall that has clothes that glow in the dark and can move there sound volume dj thing on there t-shirt. Its really cool and interesting.

One of the things I love about the night market is sometimes there's people dancing and the food there.

There's all types of food there but the two ones that I love eating is the waffles. Yea waffles, I love that you choose your topping and you get to see the make it. The other one I like getting is ( drum roll please....) (now stop its getting annoying) it is pork buns I love them!
If you don’t know what pork buns are, they have like some kind of pastry bread around it and inside in the middle has some pork in there.

I hope you have enjoyed my description about markets.
