The egg drop challenge

Name: Deja

Date: 25.2.15

An egg drop challenge is all about having fun. Also to try your hardest to create a way for the egg that we are dropping from a certain height, to be cushioned with things around it. Also to try slow the velocity of the egg down, when you drop it. There were six people competing in this challenge. Only four showed up and that was Alice, Lizzie, Jonny and Jordan They all tried their best to protect their egg and trying to make it survive.

I was competing but I was sick that day. Any way my contraption was made out of some of my things from my recycling bin. The contraption  was made out of some cut up biscuit packet holder thing. I also used a black plastic bag I cut up into a big square, a little bit of string that was the same size and some tape. My contraption was actually a bit difficult to make because I had to cut out heaps of bags to see  if it was a right size for its parachute. But finally I made a parachute that was the right size. The egg that I was going to drop from the playground was going to be wrapped up in bubble wrap as well.

On Friday we did another egg drop challenge. It was Jordan, Johnny, Hillary and I. We did it from two places. It was from the senior playground and the Junior playground. First we did it from the senior playground. All of them survived because I think we all tried to slow the velocity down. Then we went to the junior playground and dropped it from there. All of them also survived. Out of the three other people, I think that Johnny's one was the most interesting. I thought it was cool that he used a balloon for his cushioning. I like that he used a box and covered it in tin foil.
I also thought that Jordans one was cool because he had used two egg containers and he put the egg inside it. Also that he used barbecue sticks to hold the two egg containers together.

  1. I like the way you have used our technical words like velocity accurately. You described the different contraptions and how they worked very well. Nice work.

  2. This would have been a good experiment for science week.Have you tried it out for yourself at home with your brothers?
